For the past five years, my sleep has been disrupted. I used to be able to sleep through anything, but since having kids, it seems like there is always something to wake up for in the night. It was a blessing today to be able to take it slow. I didn’t have to get up early and go to work. I didn’t have to do the litany of things that I usually have on my plate. I was able to take a nap, probably one of only a handful that I’ve stolen over the past five years. Later we all played Go Fish, and then I worked on reading El Alquimista in Spanish in the hammock while watching the kids play in the pouring rain, feeling the mist on face, and listening to howler monkeys roar not too far away.
Not every day is like today. We spend an amazing amount of time cleaning and cooking. And we’re interacting more with our neighbors and finding things in which to invest ourselves. But it is beautiful to take this year to experience more freedom and to be refreshed.
